22 Mar Route 66 Kansas: the route, the stops, the attractions
Route 66 Kansas: from Carthage (Illinois) to Galena
Travel time: roughly 35 minutes, a short trip while on your way to Oklahoma.
THE ROUTE, THE STOPS, THE ATTRACTIONS
The stopsin Kansas are going to be quite short and they’ll allow you to continue your journey to Oklahoma on the same day. Here’s where I stopped and my recommendations.
Galena (roughly 35 minutes): if you’re a fan of the Disney movie ‘Cars‘ then you can’t miss out on going to Galena (119 N Main St, Galena). Here you’ll find all the characters that you were fond of in the movie, ready to take a picture with you! Just up ahead you can admire the Galena Mining & Historical Museum (319 W 7th St, Galena). Located in an old railway depot, inside you’ll find a large exhibition of mineral samples, equipment used in the mine and a model of the Great Central Mine that was located just east of Galena. The nearby Rainbow Arch Bridge (SE Beasley Rd, Baxter Springs) is the last stop before you get back on the road. It’s the last bridge on Route 66 of this kind and, in 1983, it was included in the National Register of Historical Places.
