Getting around in total safety, combining tranquility and comfort. These are the reasons that led me to buy Bobby Urban.
WHY BUY A BOBBY URBAN?
The first difference with Bobby Compact is the opening of the backpack.
It’s made of anti-cut fabric and Bobby Urban’s main compartment is reclosable via a combination steel padlock and it can also be used to secure the backpack to fixed objects.
Even though at a first glance the backpack’s closure may seem a bit uncomfortable, I was immediately attracted by it and I must say that it has several interesting aspects. First of all security: except for the hidden pocket on the back, the opening is the backpack’s only entry point, which means that no one can access your belongings while you’re wearing it. Moreover, thanks to the roll up top part, Bobby Urban offers from 22 to 27 litres of space. I must admit that I managed to use it as hand baggage for the flight to the USA; it really is spacious.

- On the back, it has a strap that enables you to attach the backpack to a trolley.
- A non-intrusive steel bar has been placed inside the bag just below the opening. In this way, the rolled up section is reinforced and it is impossible to cut once it has been rolled up and closed with the lock.
- It has a hidden pocket on the back, with quick access (located in the lower back when wearing the backpack) and it’s ideal for documents or a mobile phone. Inside there is also an integrated lace-up key holder.
- On the left shoulder strap there is a zippered card holder pocket with RFID security, large enough to hold credit/debit cards, transportation cards (metro, bus, etc.) or other small travel documents.
- It has a side bottle holder pocket and a detachable elastic mesh for your sports equipment.
- Inside there is a padded compartment for a 15.6 ” PC, a tablet holder up to 12.9″ and small net pockets for smaller objects.
WHAT DO I THINK?
I’m a woman and I’m used to bags with a certain amount of “clutter”. Bobby Urban requires a certain level of organization if you want to find things easily once they’ve been placed in your backpack.
I used Bobby Urban for the entire duration of my trip to the United States. I preferred a backpack as opposed to a classic bag in view of the crowded cities and long days spent walking. As you’d expect from an anti-theft backpack, it’s built to be rather rigid, but it still remains comfortable.
In my opinion two things can be improved:
- The bottle holder pocket is not elastic, on several occasions I had to choose small bottles in order to place them in my backpack;
- I used the backpack in hot places and I can say that the back of the backpack is not very breathable.
Finally, the fact that the backpack expands upwards and not outwards makes it easier to travel even in crowded places.
